Despite growing global emphasis on digital skills, South Africa’s Department of Basic Education has confirmed that Coding and Robotics will not become compulsory subjects in the near future. Instead, the department will focus on improving literacy and numeracy in the early grades, citing serious systemic challenges, limited resources, and widespread foundational learning deficits.
