In August 2018 Equal Education and the EELC submitted a parallel report to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights responding to the South African government’s report to the international body. Our joint submission highlight some areas of concern relating to education, including: South Africa’s efforts to have education treated as “progressively realisable”; fees as a barrier to education, menstrual hygiene in schools, provision of scholar transport, school infrastructure and regressive funding, undocumented learners and private actors in education.
